self management uk addresses Carers workshop

self management uk addresses Carers workshop hosted by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS).

Partnership Development Manager, Siobhain McCurrach was invited to address the workshop which was looking at

‘The Care Act: 6 Months On’ to discuss meeting the challenges to support carers.

Supported by Liz Galfskiy, a tutor with self management uk, Siobhain talked about the likely rising demand for unpaid carers to support their loved ones with long-term conditions considering there are more people developing such conditions ever tightening the funding pressures and also the new NICE guidance requiring longer time slots for statutory funded home care visits.

Siobhain explained that these unpaid carers, 60% of whom have long-term conditions themselves, should receive more self-management support to help them cope with the likely impact of the future pressures whilst recognising the importance of balancing caring commitments and their own lives.
