What we do Our people Mental Health First Aiders Staff Mental Health First Aiders Natascha and Zev, two of our Staff Tutors, have recently passed a Mental Health First Aider course, which equips them with the vital skills to be able to spot the signs of those that may need support and listen to somebody in distress. The courses are delivered by St. John Ambulance and are available in many locations across England and Wales (In Scotland, they are delivered by St. Andrew’s ambulance) At Self-Management UK, we’re passionate about reducing stigma, and ensuring everybody gets the support they deserve. We recognise as a charity that sometimes difficult topics surface and we wanted the people we engage with to feel they can turn to us. The wellbeing of people who attend our courses, our staff and our volunteers are a top priority for us, and we will always remain committed to that. Natascha who attended the course said: “I’m very happy to have completed the training which I’ve wanted to do for a while. I think it fits seamlessly into our roles, not just in terms of helping people who attend our courses, but also for any staff members who might be struggling with their mental health. It was a great training course, and it was really good to be around a group of people who also wanted to make a difference to their workplace mental health environment.” Zev added: “I also enjoyed this training. I found that it built on my previous experience of mental health issues and increased my knowledge of this subject, along with my confidence of working in this area. St John’s Ambulance provide a high-quality course and between us and the other participants we all had stimulating contributions to share. As a result of doing this I would now feel much better equipped to deal with a crisis both in the workplace with colleagues, or with people on a course.” For more information on mental health first aid, click here To find out more about our tutors, contact [email protected].
