Self Care Week

Self-care Week: 2015

During Self Care Week (16 – 22 November) self management uk wants to remind you about why it’s important to choose well when accessing local health services, so that everyone can get the best out of the NHS.

It is important to make the most of the range of NHS services available to you and choose the right health service for your health needs. There might even be something you can do for yourself first, especially when it comes to minor ailments or injuries such as, colic, flu, sprains or strains.

Self Care Week: Our Cake Sale

They say charity begins at home so we, at self management uk, practised what we preach yesterday.

We had a cake sale! What’s more inviting on a fresh autumn day than a pile of cakes waiting to be eaten? All home-baked, our selection ranged from malteser traybake to coffee & walnut cake to a few gluten-free varieties, including plum and cinnamon crumble cake.

We hope we managed to brighten many people’s day with our delicious treats and we raised a fantastic £102.55 in the process.

Get your aprons on and get baking – sharing is caring after all.

Self Care Week: Self-care means…

What self-care means to me:

To me self-care means looking after my condition to enable me to still enjoy the things I like to do. I might have to do them slightly differently and pace myself to achieve my final goals, but I still get the enjoyment and the feeling of achievement in the end.

Self Care Week: Poem

“What does self-care mean to me?”

Being able to relax in the bath with a mat so I don’t slip

Arrange my shopping for breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea.

Healthy food in my basket is it 5 or 7 a day can’t remember. Oh flip!

Let’s throw in an added treat one … two.. or THREE!

Trying not to over stretch in the trolley that’s the key

Ordering online if tiredness or work may prevent.

Having a balance of life, work and fun.

Feeling happy that’s what I meant.

Taking my medicine warfarin correctly even when busy on the run.
